Welcome to Eat. Drink. DC. -- a place to learn about the food scene in DC and around the world, with insider tips, restaurant reviews and info every foodie wants to know.
You may have come here with a purpose. Maybe you clicked on a link, just out of curiosity. You may have stumbled in because you're drunk. Who cares! Let's dish...
Basically, if you read my About page you'd know what's up. But you didn't!
And that's okay. I'm going to tell you.
I've been in the restaurant industry for over ten years now, so I've learned a thing or two about restaurants, plus I have developed a discriminating palate. I consider a three-hour meal the perfect evening, and there's nothing I enjoy more than those rare instances when innovative, delicious food meets attentive and warm service to make you roll your eyes back in your head with delight. You can say its as good as sex/ better than sex/ whatever. The fact that a good meal is often compared with sex should say enough.
I don't expect every dining experience to make me moan, but I do find it beyond annoying when I go out to eat (which happens about 1-3 times a week) (which explains why my wallet and I are not currently speaking), and my significant other and I end up spending way too much money for mediocre food and apathetic service.
And listen, I know that there are worse problems out there. Having a bad meal doesn't even rank in the top 1,000,000,000,000 of Bad Things That Happen Out in the World. But I'm going to try to help, because I know how it Frustrates.
That said, I'm NOT a paid restaurant critic. Every time I go out to a restaurant, I eat what I like & I write what I think. So while I fully understand that its not fair - or even sometimes reasonable - to make a judgement about a restaurant based solely on one experience, I can't always afford to go back to restaurants several times within a short period. Especially if I find a place to be awful - I don't want to waste my precious free time & cash on more bad experiences. I will generally note if my ramblings take into account just one or several experiences. But, while I try to be as thorough as possible, please don't assume that my opinions are anything other than that: Opinions.
But I have good opinions! Based on knowledge and experience! So, should ya listen to me? That's up to you. I just know that I don't always agree with other area food bloggers, & I wanted another voice to ring out in the chorus.
So my expertise obviously comes by way of restaurants, but what's that? You said you heard something about cooking? Working in a restaurant kitchen? Cheese-making? Yes, those would be my contributing writers. Every now and then, you may see something written by He Who Cooks, the Extern or the Cheese-Makin Lady. Although the blog will focus on dining in the district, we'll have some good input on other topics about which I know little to nothing. And, if you ever have a question, please feel free to email me - or any of the contributing writers - at eatdrinkdc@gmail.com. About anything. Seriously. I'll try to address all reasonable questions about the blog, or DC, or restaurants - or whatever - on the site.
Okay, be on the lookout for my first review soon!
And, uh, enjoy those day-after-Thankgiving TurkeySweetPotatoStuffingCranberry sandwiches.
(Oh don't even try it, you know you eat them, too.)
